Fiction and Rock & Roll
Acclaimed author Dana Spiotta read from her novel Stone Arabia shortly after its release in summer 2011. The evening also included performances by Richard Frasca, the rock musician whose work inspired the book, and Clem Coleman, frontman for the rock band The Methodist Bells.
In June 2011 Artworks screened Beautiful Darling, a documentary film that pays tribute to the short but influential life of the actress Candy Darling, born James Slattery in a Long Island suburb in 1944. Producer Jeremiah Newtown and writer/director James Rasin were featured in a post-show discussion.
Spring 2007 saw the beginning of the ﬁrst Artworks Art Classes for both adults and children. Life drawing, pottery making, photography, writing, and landscape drawing were all featured. Jasmine Crow taught the pottery making class, Jim Kosinski led the photography class, and Dana Spiotta led a writing seminar.
